With Fall TV Shows set to end, it’s time to find another show to watch. One of the shows set pausing is Chicago P.D. Here’s what to watch next.
With Fall TV Shows set to retire for the summer, it’s time to find another show to quench that thirst. One of the shows set to hit the pause button is Chicago PD. For fans scrambling for new storylines to follow that’s similar to those of Hank Voight and the Intelligence Unit, fear not, there are a few out there.
If cop shows are your thing, then signing on to one of the top streaming platforms could have you binge-watching until this lockdown is over. Here are 10 shows to watch if you love Chicago PD.
If Chicago PD fans are in the mood for a lighter show, then Castle is the way to go. It centers around a writer, due to his relationship with the Mayor is granted permission to tag along with members of the NYPD for a new book he’s doing.
While the action is not as eventful and as plentiful as what NBC displays with PD, Castle makes up for that with plenty of laughter. And let’s not forget, if you’re a fan of Ruzek and Burgess, then Castle also offers up a steady romance between its two leading actors.
New York Undercover
Back in the ’90s, cop dramas were a thing of the norm. However, New York Undercover went places that most shows in that genre refused to go. Two cops, one African-American and the other Hispanic made the profession cool again. J.C. Williams and Eddie Torres roamed the streets of New York as anything they wanted to be.
Their job was to protect and serve and they did so while dressed in the top street fashion with a Hip Hop backdrop as the soundtrack to the show.
NBC has something special here with the One Chicago Series. For fans of Hank Voight, this is where he got his start at as an overbearing, protective father who gave Matt Casey the blues. House 51 is a family that’s run by Chief Wallace Boden. What makes Chicago Fire so appealing is the large cast of characters and the explosive storylines that follows.
While Chicago Fire rarely deals with crime, the action scenes are still explosive enough to keep the interest of its viewers.
The third installment in the One Chicago Series is Chicago Med. Med offers the same intrigue that Chicago PD and Chicago Fire but a bit more on the life and death scale. Doctors are always in a high stakes game with the patients but Med takes viewers on a wild ride through their emotional lives as well.
And for the loyal fans of Chicago PD, there will be a few episodes where you see members of the Intelligence Unit stop through the hospital.
Labeled as arguably the best TV show ever, The Wire was more than just a cop show. It touched on politics, the school system, and the damage that drugs did to the Baltimore Community. However, as great as the storylines were, it has gone down in history for its amazing characters. There were no punches pulled in the show as no subject was off-limits to its viewers.
The Wire was raw and gritty, yet full of life lessons. Chicago PD is much like The Wire minus having weekly criminals as lead characters.
Action is the best way to describe S.W.A.T.. With Honda as lead, the S.W.A.T. Unit is always ready to put themselves in the line of fire to protect the City of Los Angeles. Hondo is to S.W.A.T. what Hank Voight is to the Intelligent Unit minus the occasional personal missteps.
S.W.A.T. is action on top of the action. Big machine guns, armored trucks, and loads of combat fighting. Truth be told, there is more action here than on Chicago PD.
Law & Order: SVU
Law & Order: SVU is another show that often crosses over with Chicago PD. Based in New York, SVU often takes their storylines fresh off the front pages of real-life newspapers and internet news. What these officers direct their focus on is mostly sexual crimes.
In this case, most of the storylines often deal with the real emotions of the officers. This is why Hank Voight and Olivia Benson are so good together and why they do have great chemistry when their shows intertwine.
Chicago PD is about order and respect while The Blacklist is the opposite. One afternoon, the FBI’s Most Wanted Man walked into the lobby of the building and surrendered. Years on the run and he just turned himself in. Raymond Reddington is the mastermind that any cop show would love to have.
He’s the ultimate baddie but still does good. The secrets that he lives with has been enough to last The Blacklist seven seasons with an eighth on the way.
Blue Bloods follows a generation of Police Officers in New York City. The Reagan’s are led by their father Frank who just happens to be the Chief of Police. There are two brothers, Danny, and Jamie and a sister Erin who is a District Attorney. Blue Bloods can have its moments where it’s as intense as Chicago PD but the one thing it does differently is their approach on family.
Blue Bloods is one of the few cops shows that travel outside of the job. There is not a real strong case for romance but it’s the bonding of the characters that makes Blue Bloods so great.
Was Hank Voight ever dirty? In the early goings of Chicago Fire, that would be a resounding yes. However, fans understand that Voight just does what he can for the city. Now Vic Mackey on The Shield, that’s something entirely different. His whole unit was composed of dirty cops with him being the shot caller.
Mackey was a strong lead character and might be one of the few cops who can possibly go toe-to-toe with Voight. They were both dedicated officers but on different sides of the law.
