The Good Witch is one of Hallmark’s top-performing shows, and yet there are still some things about it that make absolutely no sense.
The Good Witch is one of Hallmark’s top-performing shows with a series of made-for-TV movies following its success. Based on the life of the mystical Cassie Knightingale, fans follow her spooky life in Middleton. Middleton is your classic small town where everyone knows their neighbor. The mayor is friends with everyone and Cassie is the hometown holistic healer.
For six seasons, fans have fallen in love with Middleton and the suspicious things that go on. However, not everything has always made sense. Fans have reached out on forums on all things Good Witch and what doesn’t add up. Scroll below to read 10 things that don’t make sense about the series before season seven is released.
When Nick Told Grace The Coffee Shop Wasn’t Her “Scene”
In the first season of Good Witch, Nick is the new kid in town and already has a bad reputation. As a kid with a troubled past, it appeared that he was off to a rocky start in a new place. Grace tried to be nice to Nick but was skeptical and kept her distance.
But after Abigail failed to meet Grace at a nearby cafe, Grace had no choice but to talk to Nick. Oddly, Nick says something along the lines of what’s a girl like you being in a place like this? Because it wasn’t her scene. But it was a cafe… Why wouldn’t Grace be caught in a cafe, was it because it wasn’t the Bistro?
How Old Is Grace Supposed To Be?
What some new fans don’t realize is that there is a Good Witch movie that came out in 2008, seven years before the series hit TV show. The movie was such a hit that Hallmark turned it into its own series.
In The Good Witch movie, Brandon and Tara told Cassie they would get married in two years, which was right after Grace was born. This would mean Grace would be around two years old at the wedding. But when they get married, Grace is around five years old and is ready for school! Furthermore, in the first season of The Good Witch only five years was supposed to have passed. If that’s the case, how is Grace 15 years old!
And How Long Has Cassie Owned The Bell, Book, And Candle?
In the first season of the series, Middleton celebrates 13 years of Cassie’s The Bell, Book, and Candle. The store has been instrumental to many of the town’s successes and triumphs, so it wasn’t a surprise that so many people wanted to celebrate.
However, one fan pointed out that it was mentioned that Cassie had her store for a few years before Grace was born when she was still married to Jake. If that’s the case then how was Grace 15 years old and how was her store 13?
Where Did These Actors Disappear To?
There are plenty of characters that pop in and out of Middleton that are never to be seen again. Funny enough, the same can be said for some of the actors that played them.
Tara and Brandon were both replaced after a few episodes in the series (even though they played the same characters in the earlier movies), George’s wife slowly disappeared, Lori stopped coming around, Cassie’s “brother” from the orphanage said he was there for the long-haul yet left in season five… it never seems to end! What’s worse is it’s never discussed in the show or in online interviews.
Did Sam Buy Two Lake Houses?
In the second season, Sam decides to buy a lake house after wanting a get-away house for him and his son Nick. He takes Cassie along for the ride as they access the home together.
The house is later shown again in the episode “Family Time” when Sam, Cassie, and their kids go to the lake house for a weekend away. Not only are fans confused why they haven’t seen the lake house since the second season but they’re also confused why Hallmark used two completely different houses for the two episodes it’s in…
How Does Cassie Stay In Business!?
You don’t need to be a longtime fan of the series to recognize how many things Cassie gives away for free. Whenever she has a hunch that someone needs something from her shop, she offers it to them free of charge.
Even if she doesn’t say “it’s on the house,” the consumer always seems to walk out of the store with the product without going to the cash register. It’s confusing how Cassie stays in business with the number of things she gives away for free — especially to Stephanie and Martha.
Isn’t The Lights Festival In The Winter?
While The Good Witch has a good number of continuity errors, another fan recognized that some of the episodes in the second and third seasons may be out of order.
For instance, at the end of the second season, Middleton is preparing for its lights festival that happens every December. But in the series special that premiered after the second season, it was now miraculously Halloween! When an author, Jessica Carrington, is having a book release at Grey House, Cassie turns it into a Halloween party. Are we missing something here?
Tara Gave Up Cambridge For What Exactly?
In what has to be one of the most “what is she thinking!?” moments of Good Witch, fans find out that Tara has an unbelievable opportunity of completing her Ph.D. at the prestigious Cambridge in England.
But when Brandon didn’t want to go overseas to support her in her studies because he loved Middleton too much, she made a decision to leave the doctorial program to become a housewife. After countless years in school and a vision to get her Ph.D. it made zero sense as to why Tara would change so abruptly. This was not a beloved Hallmark storyline.
What The Heck Happened To Grace’s Focus?
Grace has magical abilities just like her mother and cousin but she’s also insanely smart. She’s always had great grades and a good head on her shoulders. But one fan pointed out on Reddit that there was a shift in her thinking somewhere in the series. Although Grace is young, one minute she wanted to study history, and the next minute she wanted to be a writer.
Then she realizes she’s pretty good at math and wasn’t sure what she wanted to focus on. Then all of a sudden in season five, Grace decides to give fashion design a chance… How did Grace go from wanting a degree in math, history, and English to wanting to be a dress designer on a whim? It was an off storyline.
The Relationship Between Cassie & Abigail
When Abigail first came on the scene, Cassie had a worried look on her face. Abigail was her magical cousin who caused chaos everywhere she went. She strung men along, she caused problems, and she wasn’t reliable.
She even stood up Grace at a cafe! As time went on, Abigail was suddenly nowhere near that same person in the first season. She was so reliable and honest that she even became the mayor of Middleton! Did Cassie change Abigail or did the writers change her character?
