I lost a lot of my enthusiasm for this show in season 4 and season 5… But then I bought episodes 3 and 4 after hearing good things about them and I have to say it feels like the show I love is back. It’s back to focusing on the characters I’ve loved from season 1 (Oliver, Diggle, Felicity) and I’ve enjoyed how it’s been written and how they are playing with the dynamics a bit.

This season so far balances plot and characterization very well and I feel like it’s only going to get more interesting from here!

While everything isn’t perfect with the inclusion of Black Siren/Black Canary/Curtis. I think they’re all superfluous characters, and weaken the show’s tone (canary cries and t-spheres look stupid and take away the stakes)… but I’m giving it 5 stars because at least they’re not the focus of the show and I feel like I have the show I loved is back. It may not be the most brilliant show, but it’s great entertainment.

Episode 4 is what made me buy the season pass and I hope to see the show continue in this trajectory because I recognize the show and the characters again and it’s awesome actually seeing them grow and not go through ridiculously convoluted and contrived drama.
