Jamestown, Season 2 DVD
Editorial Reviews
We return to Jamestown, a 17th Century English settlement on the edge of the breathtaking but untamed Virginian wilderness. This second season sees the tobacco plantations provide the wealth they promised but the status quo will soon be disrupted by births, deaths and broken marriages. Our pioneering settlers find themselves at the heart of adventure once more as new arrivals attempt to find their place in this foreign land. Relationships with the Native peoples afford some great influence in the town but no man, or woman, is going to give up their share of the Virginian riches without a fight. Jamestown returns for another season of dazzling ventures in love, war and diplomacy. Making a home in the New World is a dirty business, can our colonists keep their consciences clean.
1619, twelve years after the men have founded the colony of Jamestown, women arrive from England duty bound to marry the men that have paid for their passage. Among the women are Alice, Verity, and Jocelyn who arrive with little idea of what the future holds or the disruption they are about to bring to the settlement. The new governor, Sir George Yeardley, and his wife also arrive and discover that running the settlement is not without problems with a company secretary trying to undermine his position.

So where did we start season 2 (Sky1) at jamestown? Still in Virginia in the early seventeenth century, there were the first English settlers. Alice and verity are walking inland into the new world. They are both married now, and Alice is pregnant. Verity also wanted to, but her useless husband was an alcoholic who couldn’t live up to his name: Meredith root.
Alice slipped and fell, she stumbled and screamed, down the bank and into the river. There she had a temporary water birth, giving birth to jamestown’s first boy. You don’t see that in people born every minute. Maria, a enslaved midwife, helped him enter the world. Yes, I’m afraid there is slavery; Slaves were picking Virginia gold for the colonists.
One in and one out, for it was Samuel, jocelyn’s comrade, who had died on the bank, with a vulture pecking one of his eyes. Did the natives kill him? Perhaps. Their relationship seems to have deteriorated since last season.
