Marvel’s Iron Fist, Season 1 DVD
While not as technically well-made as Daredevil, Iron Fist is my favourite of the Marvel Netflix series and I highly recommend it to any Marvel fan. The writers and actors did a great job of adding depth to an otherwise generic comic book character (I love the source material too but the character never had much going on) and all of the supporting characters get genuine impactful story arcs over the course of the season. There’s also some surprising twists with a few of the characters too which elevated the series and Claire Temple gets more to do here than in any of the other series.
The actual fighting in the early episode may leave a lot to be desired but the back end offers some truly memorable sequences with the 3-way battle between Danny, Colleen, and Davos against a group of thugs being a standout.
What really impressed me is the series’ exploration of the abuse of parental figures, with all of the main characters dealing with some sort of influence from a mother or father figure, as well as issues like mental illness, anxiety, and addiction.
Oh, and the music is AMAZING. Honestly my favourite TV soundtrack since LOST.
Iron Fist is the only Marvel series I’ve rewatched immediately after finishing it and I think I’ve watched it 5 times now. It just really clicked with me.
