Mortal Engines DVD
Mortal Engine was originally a dystopian adventure novel published by British writer Philip reeve in 2001, and was the first of the mortal engine quartet. One of the film’s many fans is Peter Jackson, who co-produced and co-wrote this adaptation of the Lord of the rings with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and now turns it into a maddeningly crazy spin-off fantasy adventure film. Christian Rivers, Mr. Jackson’s former storyboard artist and visual effects director, made his directorial debut here.
The movie is basically a steampunk Star Wars, with some low-octane Gilliam and Gaiman. In fact, in the end, the resemblance to George Lucas’s great creations became so obvious that it was hard to believe it wasn’t some kind of intentional tribute.
Peter Jackson presents a world you’ve never seen before. A young woman leads a group of abandoned people to stop London, a meat-eating city on wheels, devouring everything in its path. Hundreds of years after a cataclysmic event destroyed civilization, a mysterious young woman, Hester shaw (Hera hilma), becomes the only one who can stop London — now a huge, carnivorous city on wheels — devouring everything in its path. Driven by the memory of her fierce mother, Hester joins forces with Tom nasworthy (Robert sheehan), an outcast from London, and Anna fang (gihai), a dangerous outlaw who offers a reward for her capture.
