Ray Donovan, Season 5 DVD
I loved this show from beginning to end. I’m extremely selective about what I watch and I prefer anything that authentically portrays one-ot-many human conditions. No one should be surprised by season 5. We learned early on that the Donovan men had been traumatized in youth and could clearly see the deep-seated pain and mental anguish that created catastrophe after catastrophe throughout the seasons. Life is a progression and doesn’t take place in a box and the Donovans progressions through life have been portrayed expertly. Life is an evolution and whatever we are courageous enough to face within ourselves takes us to great enlightenment and whatever emotional baggage we ignore continues to fester until it eats us alive. Ray Donovan is ahead of its time. Rarely are men comfortable talking about sexual trauma real or in this format and Ray Donovan has taken this very real mental health crisis and blended it with tv drama that is, unfortunately, a real-life drama for many, many men in the world. While some of you may only see a tv show with characters, I see that we are all being reminded that females are not the only victims of sexual abuse and it’s devasting psychological effects on the individual as well as society. We are long overdue when it comes to letting go of this stereotype and Ray Donovan puts the subject out there in a way that people can watch it without being depressed into apathy. This show has the power to wake some men up if they can relate to Ray and understand why their lives are steeped in pain and violence. It has definitely woke me up to this truth. To all of you who had a hand in producing Ray Donovan….THANK YOU. I sincerely hope that this isn’t the last that we’ve seen of the Donovans. I believe that I can speak for not just myself, but for many others, and all of those men who can relate to Ray when I say that.we would like to see Ray begin to fight his own demons rather than fighting the world around him……. and we would very much like to see him win. So please ignore the negative Season Five reviews of those who would like to keep Ray in a nice neat, familiar. comfortable box. Quite frankly, his character is already in a box….a pain box. All of you producers have the power to not only create an interesting show but to actually start the conversation more boldly regarding sexual trauma and all of its victims. I can literally see this show helping a lot of men heal just by giving them the acknowledgment that they may not have in real life. Keep up the excellent work and continue to use this platform wisely. I’m touched beyond words.
