Move over Joker and Poison Ivy: Harley Quinn has a new friend in town and this one may even turn into her new sidekick. According to DC’s April solicitations, Harley will be teaming up with brand-new sidekick Kevin in order to help her endeavors to “heal” Gotham City. Written by longtime DC writer Stephanie Phillips with art by Riley Rossmo, Harley Quinn #2 is set to hit stores in April 2021.

First appearing in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992 and then in the comic The Batman Adventures # 12 in 1993, Harley has had quite a long career as a villain wreaking mayhem in Gotham City. Originating as a sidekick herself, Harley is no stranger to the power dynamics of partnering up with other villains and heroes. And ever since her big breakup with the Joker, Harley has branched out to make more relationships of her own, like with the infamous partnership between her and Poison Ivy. Harley has also teamed up in groups of other villainous characters like when she joined The Suicide Squad or the Secret Society of Super Villains. But one relationship Harley never had is a sidekick of her own.

That seems like it might change with the arrival of Kevin joining Harley’s side. According to the DC April solicitations, Harley is running into some major roadblocks in her efforts to heal Gotham City. Psychiatrist Hugo Strange is already dealing with Gotham’s rampant clown problem and in doing so has won endorsements from the city. Not only does Strange have the heart of Gotham, but he’s also sending an army of creepy orderlies to hunt down Harley. It’s a good thing her new sidekick Kevin believes in Harley because it seems like no one else in Gotham does. In this issue, it will be up to Quinn and Kevin to throw the orderlies off their trail while also taking down Strange for good.

This is exciting news for Harley Quinn, whose sidekick has been a long-time coming. She certainly has a lot of experience teaming up with other heroes and villains of all kinds, like that time she worked with Batman as his stand-in sidekick, but this will be fun to see Harley when the roles are reversed. The only way this relationship will work is if her sidekick is a grounded, realistic character to balance Harley’s explosive, demented personality. Whatever the dynamic is, Harley Quinn better work with Kevin fast if they’re going to shake these orderlies off their tails. Tune in April 27, 2021 to see how Quinn and Kevin take back Gotham City.
