Star Wars fans are eager for these 10 questions to be answered in season 2 of Disney+’s animated series about The Bad Batch.
Season 1 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch cemented the end of the Clone Wars era. The finale also solidified where Omega, Crosshair, and Clone Force 99 stand in terms of their identities and their choices. With this era concluded and the Empire only growing stronger, fans are looking toward season 2 and what is in store for the characters and their changing galaxy.
The questions that need to be answered in season 2 are those established by cliffhangers, lingering questions overall, and the fans’ desires to fully understand how The Bad Batch connects with stories that take place further down the road in the canon timeline.
What Are The Empire’s Plans For Nala Se?
In the last scene of the season 1 finale, Nala Se is taken to an Imperial mountain base where she is told that the Empire has big things planned for her. The individual who greets Nala Se wears the same uniform as Dr. Pershing in The Mandalorian, which means that Nala Se’s work might connect to why Moff Gideon wants Grogu’s blood many years later. Nala Se’s experiments could also connect to the cloning that will ultimately lead to Snoke and the return of Palpatine in the sequel trilogy.
Even more speculation about the Empire’s plans stems from the fact that the Imperial mountain base is identified as Mount Tantiss in concept art, a location from Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire trilogy that, if it takes cues from Zahn’s novels, could have major implications for The Bad Batch and many other future Star Wars stories.
Will The Bad Batch Continue Working For Cid?
The Bad Batch spent a lot of the first season working as mercenaries for Cid. While this partnership gave the Bad Batch the money they needed to survive and sometimes enabled them to help good people, Cid also took advantage of the Batch at certain points, withheld critical information, and sometimes placed them in needlessly perilous situations.
It will be intriguing to see if the Bad Batch continues to work for her or if they will forge a new path instead. For certain members of the group, mere survival is not enough. No longer working for Cid might be the key to forging a more independent and more meaningful path for the group.
Will Crosshair Choose To Stay With The Empire?
Crosshair chose to return to the Empire at the end of the season 1 finale, leaving fans to wonder if this is a permanent move. From Crosshair’s perspective, it makes sense to choose the Empire instead of Clone Force 99 as his brothers abandoned him while the Empire kept him around and gave him a purpose.
That being said, Crosshair can’t ignore that the Empire just fired on him, the only home he’s ever known, and left him for dead. Also, after getting a taste of what it is like to be with his brothers again and their willingness to take him back, the Empire might not feel so welcoming. Crosshair is not unintelligent and he has to notice that the clones are being phased out as well. All these factors make it seem likely that Crosshair will eventually leave the Empire, yet he is deeply loyal to them and has already made the choice to stay with them on multiple occasions.
Are There Other Secrets About Omega?
One of the major mysteries at the beginning of the series was what made Omega special. The show answered this by revealing that Omega is an unaltered female clone of Jango Fett. Boba Fett is the only other unaltered clone of Jango, which made Omega and her DNA valuable to the Kaminoans as they tried to find ways to continue the cloning program. Omega was also Nala Se’s medical assistant, which provided unique insight into the clones.
There doesn’t need to be any other secrets about Omega. The truth that was revealed makes sense and the show has made her a compelling character. Nevertheless, fans can’t help but wonder if there are any other secrets about her or her past that will be revealed.
Who Is Rex Working With?
Rex is fighting against the Empire and at the end of “Battle Scars”, he uses his comlink to tell someone that he will meet them at a rendezvous point. Other than Trace and Rafa Martez who helped Rex find the Bad Batch on Ord Mantell, it is unclear who Rex is working with at this point.
If the show is following the Ahsoka novel by E.K. Johnston, Ahsoka and Rex are currently not in contact at this point in the timeline and are many years away from their heartwarming Star Wars Rebels reunion. This raises the question of who else Rex is working with as he fights back against the Empire.
What Causes Rex To Step Away From The Rebellion?
When the Ghost crew meets Rex in Star Wars Rebels, Rex is living with Wolffe and Gregor on the planet Seelos and they are not involved in a fight against the Empire. It is only after the episodes “The Lost Commanders” and “Relics of the Old Republic” that Rex joins Phoenix Squadron and the larger Rebel Alliance.
Since Rex is shown to be actively fighting against the Empire in The Bad Batch, this raises the question of what makes Rex leave the fight behind to the point where he is completely cut off from it in Rebels. Something dramatic and likely tragic will probably need to make this possible, as Rex seems completely committed to the fight in The Bad Batch.
Will The Bad Batch Join The Early Rebellion Against The Empire?
The Bad Batch worked with characters like Rex, the Martez sisters, and the Syndullas as they begin resisting the Empire. These relationships, the Empire’s growing menace, and their hold on Crosshair could motivate the Bad Batch to join the resistance against the Empire.
There are challenges with this storyline, though, as the Rebellion is many years away from being an organized group with the resources necessary to fully strike back at the Empire, meaning the Bad Batch and their fellow rebels can’t do anything too ground-breaking or influential at this point. There is also the risk of this storyline feeling too similar to the Ghost crew joining the Rebel Alliance and helping it grow in Star Wars Rebels.
What Will Happen To Howzer?
Fan-favorite Howzer was the first clone still working for the Empire who was shown to have maintained his individuality. When the Empire took things too far on Ryloth, Howzer spoke out against the Empire and even convinced some of his clone brothers–who still had their inhibitor chips–to stop obeying the Empire as well, which led to Howzer and the clones he convinced to be arrested.
Howzer’s game-changing actions and the fact that he is still alive likely means that audiences haven’t seen the last of him. Fans can only speculate how or when he will be seen again, but hopefully, he will have a role to play in helping the Bad Batch and defying the Empire in season 2.
When Will The Empire Phase Out The Clones Completely?
The episode “War-Mantle” showed that the Empire is already pretty far along with phasing out clone troopers and replacing them with the TK troopers who will eventually become variants of stormtroopers. The final episodes of season 1 showed that the Empire is still using clones, though.
In season 2 it will be interesting to see if the clones are phased out entirely or if there continues to be a gradual progression. This change will have major implications for Crosshair as even if he wants to remain loyal to the Empire, they may not want him anymore if they’re completely phasing out all clones.
Where Is Boba Fett And Will He Meet Omega?
Boba Fett is mentioned in season 1 of The Bad Batch but he is conspicuously absent and unable to be located. Given that Lama Su seemingly put all resources into locating Omega instead of Boba, it would be intriguing to learn why Boba was so unfindable and where he is at in his journey as a bounty hunter.
As Omega’s brother and the only other clone with Jango Fett’s DNA, it will be fascinating to see if he and Omega meet and how he will react to her. Omega will see him as family and likely want a relationship with him, but will the rising bounty hunter want anything to do with her?
