Stranger Things: 10 Burning Questions We Have For Season 5

Stranger Things: 10 Burning Questions We Have For Season 5

With old villains returning and characters walking the line between life and death, Stranger Things fans have burning questions for season 5.

The second volume of Stranger Things’ fourth season provided one of the most intense moments of the show so far, while also setting the stage for the upcoming final season. However, even though many questions the fans had regarding the Upside Down and Eleven’s past were answered, there’s still a lot to uncover in season five.

The bittersweet season finale ends with a major cliffhanger as the fate of Hawkins remains uncertain. With old villains returning, main characters walking a tight line between life and death, and tension rising between couples, there’s a lot to discuss about the direction Stranger Things will take in its fifth and final season.

When Is Season 5 Going To Be Released?

It took Netflix three years to bring Stranger Things back after season 3, but the production delay caused by the difficult pandemic period justifies it. However, the gap between seasons 2 and 3 was of two years, and that’s likely to be the case once again. Even though Stranger Things is one of Netflix’s most successful shows, each cast member has their own schedule.

Which brings about another question: will there be another time jump? It’s unsure but quite possible due to the teenage cast’s crystal clear coming-of-age. They all look way older than they were in season 1, and some of them are already 30 years old, like Steve Harrington’s actor Joe Keery.

Is Will Ever Going To Come Out?

Noah Schnapp, the actor who plays Will in Stranger Things, has recently opened up about the way the show addresses the character’s sexuality, mentioning how it’s open to the audience’s interpretation of whether Will is just growing slower than his friends or if he’s really gay. In a heartbreaking scene in the second half of season 4, he offers heartfelt insights to Mike regarding his relationship with Eleven but quietly breaks down in tears soon after, implying that he might feel something else for his best friend.

This is just one of many hints the show is giving about Will’s sexuality, and fans hope Stranger Things will have time to address this matter especially considering how Will has become such an underused character. The fact that Jonathan has realized Will’s suffering could lead up to an emotionally powerful conversation between the brothers in season 5, where Will might finally decide to confide his secret to someone.

Will Eleven Continue To Be Chased?

Lt. Colonel Jack Sullivan was a recurring villain in season 4 and was convinced Eleven has behind the killings in Hawkins. Ignoring Owens’ assertions about her, Sullivan remained committed to finding Eleven and stopping her for good.

After the catastrophic events that took place in season 4’s final episode, it’s posssible that most of it will continue to be blamed on Eleven. Owens’ fate after episode 8 is unsure, and whether or not he will manage to convince the Colonel next time around is a huge question, so it’s more than possible that Sullivan could once again be a major antagonist in the first episodes of season 5.

Is Vecna Still Alive?

Already taking his place among the best antagonists in Stranger Things, Vecna was revealed to be responsible for much more than anticipated and the first person to ever witness the Upside Down, it’s highly unlikely that he died for good and he will probably return as a major antagonist in the final season. While it’s still debatable whether Vecna or the Mind Flayer is the top dog from the Upside Down, they share a powerful connection that has the potential to destroy everything.

Vecna’s body was destroyed by Nancy, Robin, and Steve, but after all these years in the Upside Down gathering strength and polishing his powers, it’s difficult to believe that his mystical abilities were limited to a single physical body. Fans defend the theory that he will come back stronger since his curse ended up being fulfilled.

Will Nancy And Steve End Up Together?

Fans believe that hints of a possible Nancy and Steve romance weren’t included in season 4 for no reason. Even though Jonathan is back and his relationship with Nancy seems to be steady, they are still hiding important information from each other. While these details might look small when compared to the potential destruction of the world, it’s possible that the couple may have a crucial argument in season 5, signing the green light for Steve and Nancy to get back together.

They both share a deeply emotional moment in season 4’s finale, but Nancy didn’t have the time to tell Steve how she feels about the things he said. If she does go through hard times in her relationship with Jonathan, it could be the start of the same love triangle of earlier seasons, and not every fan will be happy about that.

Will Max Wake Up From Her Coma?

In the season 4 finale, Max stood between life and death after Vecna’s second attempt of claiming her soul. Even though he managed to stop her heart and carry out his curse, Eleven quickly used her powers to resurrect Max, but she was still left severely injured with every single limb broken, entering a comatose state.

The safe option is assuming the showrunners kept Max alive for a reason, and not simply because they wanted all the impactftul deaths to take place in season 5. Even if Max ends up dying, she will likely wake up from her coma before, otherwise the Duffer brothers missed a great opportunity to end season 4 with an even greater gut punch.

Will Any Of The Main Characters Die?

With many key characters speculated to die in Stranger Things season 4, the showrunners decided to carry out the same plan of earlier seasons: introduce a sweet, likable new character just kill them off instead of a main character. The victim this time was Eddie Munson, but fans are getting tired of this same approach taking place over and over again.

The stakes are different now because season 5 is the final one and literally anything can happen. Most importantly, the show is simply so packed with characters that each plotline takes ages to advance, and some key characters like Will and Jonathan ended up obfuscated in the last two seasons. Killing off a few key characters will not only deliver the emotional big blow that a final season demands but also give space to characters who deserve more development.

Will Hawkins Survive?

With Vecna’s curse completed, his Upside Down gates opened and spread across Hawkins, causing an earthquake-like catastrophe. Judging by the event’s otherworldly appearance, fans found it weird how the residents of Hawkins reacted to it, and since there was a two-day time-jump before the episode’s ending and nothing much has changed besides the huge weird-looking fires, it looks like the more serious consequences of the catastrophe won’t be immediate.

That doesn’t mean there will be no huge consequences, though. Hawkins is to Stranger Things what Hogwarts is to Harry Potter, and it would be weird to conduct a final battle anywhere else. With the Upside Down emerging from the city’s grounds, it’s just a matter of time before evil forces emerge, and fans can only hope the OG team will manage to save their beloved Hawkins.

What’s The Deal With The Russians?

It’s clear that the Russians have valuable information about the Upside Down and its creatures, but their real purposes are still unclear. With Demogorgons locked down in their prisons and, most importantly, a giant room containing particles that make up the Shadow, they could end up unleashing something terrible in the world. Especially now that Vecna’s connections with the Shadow are proven, it’s definitely not a good sign that Hopper and his group found those particles in the Russian prison.

The fact that Enzo has survived season 4 and will probably continue to join forces with Hopper could indicate that connections to the Russian plotline will go on in season 5, but it’s highly unlikely that any of the main characters will come back to the USSR with only a few episodes left.

Will The Upside Down Blend Into Our World?

Season 4 of Stranger Things did a great job in finally clarifying many of the questions fans had about the Upside Down, and the fact that a human mind was behind it (if Vecna can still be called human) makes it all an even greater twist. However, there are still many questions left unanswered, and now that the Upside Down gates are opened in Hawking things might get even more complicated.

First of all, Nancy’s discovery about the Upside Down being stuck in time most definitely hints that something’s off, and the matter seems to be connected with Will’s disappearance in season 1. Considering that Hawking and the Upside Down could collide anytime soon, this weird time stuff could really mess things up even further.
