Whose Line Is It Anyway? is a classic improvisational comedy series but will it return for another season or has it been cancelled?
Is classic improv series Whose Line Is It Anyway? returning for another series? Whose Line Is It Anyway? was co-created by Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson and started life as a radio series in the UK, which featured Stephen Fry (V For Vendetta) amongst its regular cast of performers. It later became a TV series hosted by Clive Anderson, which began airing in 1988, with comedians such as Ryan Stiles, Josie Lawerence, Paul Merton and Colin Mochrie being recurring players. The setup for the show has a panel of four comedians improvise based on comic suggestions from the audience or host, often with hilarious results.
Whose Line Is It Anyway? became a mainstay on Channel 4 for over a decade, and eventually came to an end in 1999. A U.S. remake debuted on ABC in 1998, this time hosted by Drew Carey. Stiles and Mochrie stayed on, with Wayne Brady (The Masked Singer) also become a regular player. This version was another success and ran for eight seasons. In 2013 it was revived on The CW, with Archer’s Aisha Tyler becoming the new host.
This take on Whose Line Is It Anyway? has been running ever since, but is another season on the horizon?
Whose Line Is It Anyway? Season 16 Is Currently Airing
Whose Line Is It Anyway? season 16 began airing in March 2020, which featured the return of regular fixture Greg Proops (True Jackson, VP) for a few episodes, in addition to guests like Ricki Lake and Cedric the Entertainer. The most recent episode was at the end of August 2020, but there’s currently no news on when the next episode airs.
Whose Line Is It Anyway? Hasn’t Been Renewed For Season 17 Yet
With a new season currently airing, its no surprise that news of Whose Line Is It Anyway? being picked up for season 17 hasn’t happened yet. Ratings for the series have stayed consistent from year to year, and since its an unscripted show revolving around a group of comedians improvising on a stage, it’s not the priciest show to produce either.
